A huge shout out to the The City of Foley and Days of Caring partnered with United Way! A much needed pathway to our front lawn for extra parking as we are bursting at the seams with students, and classes! Also a huge shout out for our great team for part of the day was spent sorting many, many, many books that are provided each month for our community!

2022 Mathis Book Giveaway
We were able to visit with all 7 first grade classes and give each student 4 amazing and highly illustrated books. 676 Books in all to call their very own to take home to read, expand their imaginations and share with their families. HUGE shout out to Mrs. Weston - Mathis Reading Specialist and to Principal Shannon McCurdy and Assistant Principal Dionne Dunton-Armstrong for making our visit incredible.





2022 Tutor training
An incredible Lunch and Learn “What’s new for the Fall 2022” with our special guests being Melanie Matthews - Elementary Curriculum Supervisor and April Paul - K-12th Dyslexia Specialist with the Baldwin County Board of Education.
New Elementary curriculum and curriculum changes coming in the Fall gave us a great insight on what to expect and giving us the tools that we need to help our elementary students who are struggling.



Fairhope youth tutor training

In February 2021 SBLC held a youth tutor training workshop at Fairhope Highschool! Youth Services Coordinator Susan trained 6 Fairhope highschool students in our target reading intervention methods. The highschoolers will be helping tutor local children who are falling behind in school!
Book and Bear Drive thru



During COVID-19 SBLC switched gears and opened up a drive -thru to give out free books and bears to children in Baldwin County. 151 local families drove thru and received free books for their children!

February 12th 2020 South Baldwin Literacy Council held our first tutor training workshop of 2020! 12 Adult tutors attended the training session. Special thanks to Bob Pumford and Martha Morales for their presentations. Topics covered: IXL and Strategies for Engaging Math students.
Open House and Ribbon Cutting
November 20th 2019 the SBLC held an Open House and Ribbon cutting event to celebrate the addition of 4 new classrooms to our building! Both the South Baldwin and Coastal Alabama Chambers of Commerce came to host the event. During the event the Coastal Alabama Business chamber declared Nov 20th as Literacy Day! Thank you to all who came out, we appreciate the community support!





Tutor Appreciation Luncheon
On Oct 17th 2019 The South Baldwin Literacy Council held a tutor appreciation luncheon. 25 Volunteer tutors attended to receive materials, training and lunch. Thank you tutors for all that you do for our community!
